On Sunday evening July 27th the Nantucket New School held their gala event “Charting Courses for Adventure” in their beautiful Louise F. Walker Building at 15 Nobadeer Farm Road. As with most independent schools in America, Nantucket New School depends heavily upon fundraising to meet it's operating expenses and also to reach the goals of The Weezie Foundation 1:1 matching grant. NNS is an independent, co educational day school of over one hundred students serving grades pre-K through 8. The summer gala is Nantucket New School's major fundraising event.

The evening was true parent collaboration, with parent's coordinating and contributing to every aspect of the evening. The Co-Chairs were Criss Leydecker-Troast, Nina Hallowell-Liddle and Angela Raynor.

The evening began with Cocktails and exotic hors d'oeuvres in the imaginatively transformed lower level cafeteria. A bamboo thatched TIKI bar was manned by legendary guest bartenders - David White- [parent and "Opera House" alum], Michael Sturgis- [former 21 Federal now Brant Point Grill] & Nantucket Golf Club front man Tom “Tommy B.” Bressette- [Boarding House fame] created mojitos, dark and stormy's and passion fruit cosmos. Jonas Baker of Bluefin & Michael Getter of American Seasons represented the many island restaurants contributing to the event- 21 Federal, American Seasons, Bluefin, Company of the Cauldron, The Galley, Black-Eyed Susan's, Pi Pizza and Le Languedoc. The ever-jovial Spanky Kania of Outlaw Seafood held court with his native oysters & clams on the patio.

Mark and Eithne Yelle of Nantucket Catering Company did a fantastic job as host chef/caterers. After cocktails guests were seated in the main level hall. The round tables and rosewood chairs were gorgeously draped with sepia toned cloths depicting ancient charts and maps. Antique books, seashells and bottles accented the decor. Tropical ginger and bamboo added height and dimension to the tables. Vintage lanterns were strung throughout the room. The gourmet meal was designed by Chefs -Kirk Avondoglio of Perona Farms, Seth Raynor [NNS parent] of The Pearl and the Boardinghouse, Ken Oringer of Clio & Uni, & Michael Schlow of Radius, Via Matta & Great Bay. The Guests were kept entertained throughout dinner with an incredible live auction & renowned auctioneer Rafael Osona. The auction featured many amazing adventures from a trip to the Galapagos Islands to a cast member tour of the West Wing. A final net total for the evening is not yet available. The event was a huge success on all accounts and no one left hungry!

Lots of sparkling wine flowed at the beginning of the event.

Plates of hor d'oeuvres were provided by many Island restaurants.
